About this place
Tuna steak, assorted tempura, daikon radish and whale croquettes from the oden pot: Kyoya honten offers plenty to choose from when you want to order a few dishes alongside your drinks. One diner recalled the tuna steak’s fragrant seared exterior and moist centre, served with garlic chips. The same diner found the assorted tempura easy to eat, with its light batter and selection of prawns and vegetables. Other fried dishes include prawn tempura, pike conger tempura and crab gratin croquettes.
The oden selection includes familiar favourites such as daikon, egg and thick fried tofu, as well as whale croquettes and mochi-filled tofu pouches. One diner recommends pairing doteyaki—beef tendon simmered in a miso-based sauce—with a draft Maruefu beer. Another described the doteyaki as sweet and savoury, and noted that it arrived soon after ordering.
For grilled dishes, there are yakitori and grilled chicken liver, with salt or sauce as the seasoning options. Chicken skin is available with salt, sauce or ponzu; one diner particularly enjoyed the salted version. Drinks include draft and bottled beer, shochu, highballs and chuhai.
Some diners come for a drink from lunchtime. The restaurant is open from 12 to 22, except on Sundays. It is also described as suitable for solo dining, whether you want to sample a few small plates or share dishes with companions.
